The Airbus factory enlarges its Getafe plant, increasing staff numbers by 5% The enlargement of the Airbus facility in Getafe will lead to a 5% annual increase in staffing, as well as having a knock-on effect on the companys auxiliary industry, resulting in an expected annual expansion of 350 direct jobs, 150 external jobs and 1,750 indirect jobs over the 2014-2016 period.
Having rolled out the second phase of the Carpetania Business Park in Getafe, this will be the largest aerospace facility in Spain and the third largest in Europe, after Toulouse and Hamburg.
The Autonomous Community of Madrid has provided the land that will allow Airbus to double the size of its facility and further expand its activities with new projects. The enlargement work involves a wide range of new facilities that will come into use between 2014 and 2016.
Spain takes an 11% stake in the new Airbus programme
The A350XWB programme is one of the major developments in the international aeronautics world. This is a major challenge, not only for the European manufacturer but also for the Spanish aeronautics industry which has an 11% stake, the largest to date in an Airbus programme, not counting the stake held by other Spanish companies that have been able to join the programme as a result of free competition.
The Spanish aeronautics sectors experience has resulted in a steady increase in the level of competition and responsibility in Airbus Spain. Along with the three Airbus Spain factories, special mention must also be made of the role played by its three blue-chip subcontractors, risk-sharing partners with significant responsibilities in the development of the A350, as well as many other Spanish companies who have been subcontracted to make other components, and a number of other collaborators and auxiliary agents likewise subcontracted to provide engineering and support services.
At the outset of the A350XWB development it was announced that the programme would create around 4,450 jobs as well as a turnover of nearly 4.6 billion euros.
